Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWIP)

Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWIP) are three-day regional conferences for undergraduate physics majors.

2012

January 13 - January 15
The 2012 conferences will run Friday evening, January 13 through Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2012.

  • Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio
  • Stanford University, Stanford, California
  • Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas
  • University of Tennessee - Knoxville, Tennessee*
  • University of Washington, Seattle, Washington
  • Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut
* University of Tennessee - Knoxville conference began January 12 to accommodate a tour of Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The goal is to help undergraduate women continue in physics by providing them with the opportunity to experience a professional conference, information about graduate school and professions in physics, and access to other women in physics of all ages with whom they can share experiences, advice, and ideas.

Testimonials

[CUWIP] is an empowering experience, to say the least, and I hope that everyone, no matter their involvement in physics, or even the sciences, can experience such a fulfilling conference at some point in their lives.
  -  Amelia Plunk, Mount Holyoke College
Gray Arrow Conference Testimonials

A typical program will include research talks by faculty, panel discussions about graduate school and careers in physics, presentations and discussions about women in physics, laboratory tours, student research talks, a student poster session, and several meals during which presenters and students interact with each other.
